Match the address and scope first
On the city’s Building, Permitting & Inspections page, follow the city link for permit searches. Use the number supplied by the contractor and confirm that the address and work description refer to your project. A separate re-roof permit at the same house can look plausible. If the permitting authority on the documents is Lee County or another city, use that authority’s records instead.
Read the inspection results as well as the dates
Ask the contractor which inspections applied to this particular scope and what the final record should show. A scheduled appointment or issued permit is an earlier step than a recorded final result. If a status is unclear, call the named permitting office with the number and ask what remains outstanding. Save a dated copy with the invoice.
Keep repairs, product details and operating advice together
Request the description of the work completed, the part or sheet-metal specification, any approved changes, and photos of concealed work if available. A permit result concerns the permitted scope. If the fireplace was previously taken out of use, ask the person assessing the appliance or flue for the separate return-to-use determination. Archive both decisions so a later owner can tell which question each one answered.
