Identify what will be open at each pause
A temporary covering over disturbed roofing and a treatment at an appliance vent are different tasks. The qualified crew should describe what it can close before leaving, how it protects the enclosure and what must stay unused. Never drape plastic or a cover over a working flue, and never operate the fireplace while the outlet or work conditions are uncertain.
Give the owner one reachable contact
Name the person responsible for temporary protection, the person who can inspect it after adverse weather and the person coordinating the permanent repair. If a custom part is delayed, ask what happens on the next calendar date, even if no new water appears. The Army Corps describes its own temporary roofing program as interim protection; it is not a repair specification for an individual chimney.
Record the handoff
A wide image before opening, one when work pauses and one after permanent closure makes the sequence intelligible. Record accessible indoor marks separately. If weather makes access unsafe, use the crew's professional plan and follow emergency guidance when needed. An invoice saying “covered” should also identify which surface and whether the job remains open.
